The 39 Steps Comedy
Now entering its fifth year in the West End at the Criterion Theatre Patrick Barlow’s adaptation of John Buchan’s whodunit, memorably filmed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1935
Olivier Award-winning comedy The 39 Steps has extended its booking period at the Criterion Theatre, where it’s now booking through to 22 October 2011.
In The 39 Steps, four actors play “150 roles” between them to tell the tale of London bachelor Richard Hannay fleeing to Scotland and breaking a spy ring to prove his innocence after a woman is found murdered in his home.

2011 39 Steps cast
The 7th West End cast for The 39 Steps begin their run on the 1st February 2011.
The new cast stars Rufus Wright as Richard Hannay, Laura Rogers as Pamela, Annabella and Margaret and Dermot Canavan and Sean Kearns as Man 1 and Man 2. The new cast of 4, who will take on the task of performing all 139 roles in 100 minutes, started rehearsals early in the New Year at the Criterion Theatre
The 39 Steps now in its 5th year at the Criterion Theatre in the heart of Theatreland, has seen 6 West End casts, 2 touring casts, 30 actors, 19 understudies, 8 Richard Hannays, almost 1,800 West End performances as well as 3 years in New York (and on Broadway) and 52 international productions.
John Buchan’s gripping thriller was filmed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1935. It is now adapted for the stage having transferred to the Criterion Theatre after a sensational run at the Tricycle Theatre.
The 39 Steps Cast of Four
The current West End cast is David Bark-Jones (as Hannay), Dianne Pilkington, Timothy Speyer and Jeremy Swift.
