Shrek The Musical at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane

The musical is based on the story and characters from William Steig’s book Shrek! and the Oscar-winning film about the lovable green ogre. It will feature all new songs and even a version of Neil Diamond's I'm A Believer, which was a big hit for The Monkees.

Shrek the musical played on Broadway from December 2008 to January 2010 and won a Tony Award for Best Costume Design.


Tickets go on sale to the public from 1st October 2010.

Amanda Holden

Amanda Holden one of the judges from Britain's Got Talent will star in Shrek The Musical, opening at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in May 2011.

Nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical in 2003 for her part in Thoroughly Modern Millie, she'll play Shrek's wife Princess Fiona.

Kimberley Walsh

Kimberley Walsh will play the role of Princess Fiona in Shrek The Musical from 5th October 2011. Amanda Holden’s pregnancy, announced Wed 24th August, means that she performs as Princess Fiona for the final time on Monday 3rd October 2011. Kimberley Walsh takes over the role two months earlier than originally planned.

Kimberley Walsh is a member of Girls Aloud one of the UK’s most successful pop groups. Alongside Cheryl Cole, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and Sarah Harding she has sold 10 million records, released five platinum selling albums, won a Brit award and played sold-out arena tours. Kimberley’s love of musical theatre was explored in the ITV2 documentary The Passions of Girls Aloud which culminated in her appearance at the Queens Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue singing On My Own, in the role of Eponine, in Les Miserables. This was the realisation of a life-long dream, having played the role of Young Cosette in a production of Les Miserables when she was twelve years old.

Nigel Lindsey

Nigel Lindsay is cast as Shrek, and Nigel Harman as Lord Farquaad. They join previously mentioned Amanda Holden as Princess Fiona, and Richard Blackwood as Donkey. Further casting to be announced soon!

In addtion to Nigel Lindsay, who will be playing the title character, Nigel Harmen, Richard Blackwood, and Amanda Holden will be joining the upcoming London production of Shrek as Lord Farquaad, Donkey and Princess Fiona respectively.

Nigel Harman

Nigel Harman has been cast as Lord Farquaad in the mega-musical that is sure to be a huge hit with West End audiences.

Best known for playing heart-throb Dennis Rickman in BBC1’s EastEnders, Nigel has also worked extensively in theatre, with roles including Three Days of Rain at the Apollo, Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls at the Piccadilly Theatre and on tour, True West at the Sheffield Crucible and Privates on Parade at the Donmar Warehouse.

In addition to EastEnders, TV and film roles include BBC1’s Hotel Babylon and Blood Diamond.

In Shrek The Musical he will be joined by Nigel Lindsay as Shrek, Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden as Princess Fiona and Richard Blackwood as the Donkey.

The forthcoming DreamWorks production of Shrek The Musical®, based on the Oscar-winning film, opens at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London on 7 June 2011.

Full Cast List for Shrek

Shrek the Musical opens at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane on 7th June (previews from 1st May).

The full cast has just been announced. Joining Nigel Lindsay as Shrek, Richard Blackwood as Donkey, Amanda Holden as Princess Fiona and Nigel Harman as Lord Farquaad will be a company of 33 performers.

They include Delroy Atkinson, Amy Beadel, Stephanie Bron, Dean Chisnall, Jon-Scott Clark, Ste Clough, Lee William-Davis, Ross Dawes, Lucie Downer, Alice Fearn, Michelle Francis, Ashley E Hale, Rosanna Hyland, Bradley Jaden, Aaron Lee Lambert, Emma Lindars, Grant Murphy, Spencer O'Brien, Landi Oshinowo, Damien Poole, Stuart Matthew Price, Jacqui Sanchez, Jonathan Stewart, Leigh-Anne Stone, Lucy Tapp, Karli Vale and Michael Watson.

The roles of Young Shrek and Young Fiona will be shared by Samantha Allison, Chorlène Biron-Monnier, Lauren Dawes, Madeleine Hill, Emilia Jones and Sophie Wythe.

Changes from Broadway

Many changes are expected for the West End installment of the show. According to the Daily Mail Online, "There's a new opening, new songs, improved illusions, a newly styled dragon and Shrek has a bigger heart." Rob Ashford has allegedly restaged several numbers, as well.
