George and Ira Gershwin's musical comedy Crazy for You was the final show in the 2011 season at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre where it ran from 28th July – 10th September 2011. After a successful run there, Crazy For You is now at the Novello Theatre.

Crazy For You in the West End

Crazy For You from the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre transferred into the Novello Theatre after Betty Blue Eyes closed there on 24th September.

George and Ira Gershwin's musical comedy Crazy For You ended it run at Regent's Park on 10th September with an October transfer mooted.

This show is all about having fun and becoming reacquainted with some old Gershwin standards.

Crazy For You Cast

Casting has been announced for the production with the roles of Bobby Child and Polly Baker being played by Sean Palmer and Clare Foster. Sean Palmer appeared in the original casts of Saturday Night Fever and Fosse and most recently playing Prince Eric in Disney's The Little Mermaid on Broadway. As well as playing PC Millie Brown in The Bill, Clare Foster has performed in numerous West End productions including Avenue Q, Chicago and We Will Rock You.

Kim Medcalf will play Irene Roth and Harriet Thorpe (Mamma Mia! and Wicked!) will take the roles of the Mother and Patricia. Michael McKell takes the role of Lank.

David Burt will play the role of Bela Zangler. His theatre credits include: countless productions at the National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company and the West End including The Beggar's Opera, Merchant of Venice, Troilus and Cressida, Evita, Cats, Les Miserables, Chess, La Traviata, Jesus Christ Superstar and The Woman in White.

Further casting includes: Rachel Stanley (Tess), Alexis Owen Hobbs (Patsy), Samuel Holmes (Eugene), Peter Martin (Everett), Lucy Anderson, Jessica Buckby, Cara Elston, Charlene Ford, Jo Goodwin, Amy Griffiths (Follies Girls), Harry Morrison, James O'Connell, Carl Sanderson, Phil Snowden, Stephen Whitson (Cowboys), Richard Jones, Josh Lacey and Jo Morris (Swings).

There is a particularly strong supporting cast that includes Michael McKell as a rough hotelier and Kim Medcalf as Bobby’s old girlfriend. Both provide some naughty laughs and give the show a bit of edge.


Regent's Park Open Air Theatre has announced the programme for 2011 which includes the Gershwins musical Crazy For You.

George and Ira Gershwin's hit musical comedy is the final production of the 2011 season and runs from 28th July to 10th September. It includes a number of Gershwin classics including "I Got Rhythm", "Someone To Watch Over Me", "Embraceable You" and "Nice Work If You Can Get It".

The creative team from the multi-award winning production of Hello, Dolly! reunite for Crazy for you with Timothy Sheader directing, choreography by Stephen Mear and designs by Peter McKintosh. Gareth Valentine returns as the musical director after joining the Open Air Theatre last season for Sondheim's Into the Woods.

The feel-good musical Crazy for You is on at the Open Air Theatre in Regent’s Park. Bobby Child, son of a banking family, who wants to be a dancer despite protests from his mother and his fiancée. When he’s sent away to close down a theatre, he falls in love with Polly. The story is set to the magnificent music of George and Ira Gershwin.

Five Facts about Crazy For You

  • The Gershwin brothers collaborated to bring jazz and blues to the stage and screen. Of Thee I Sing was the first musical to win a Pulitzer Prize and their ‘folk opera’ Porgy and Bess is considered a classic.
  • Gershwin songs are timeless: Judy Garland sang I Got Rhythm, Frank Sinatra performed They can’t Take That Away From Me, Janis Joplin gave her own twist to Summertime and Lady Gaga recently covered Someone to Watch Over Me.
  • Playwright Ken Ludwig wrote the story Crazy For You, incorporating the Gershwin songs. The musical was first performed in 1992 on Broadway where it won three Tony Awards.
  • Clare Foster plays Polly Baker and might be best known as PC Millie Brown in The Bill but she has also played in the musicals Avenue Q, Chicago and Saturday Night Fever.
  • Sean Palmer who plays Bobby Child had a part in the Sex in the City television series as Stanford Blatch’s boyfriend Marcus.
