Billy Elliot was a popular British film which surprisingly became a hit West End musical and has now taken New York by storm as well.
Billy Elliot the Musical recently celebrated its 4th year in London. Currently playing at the Victoria Palace Theatre. Runs 2 hours 30 minutes including interval. Matinees Thursday and Saturday.
Billy Elliot: The Musical has extended its run at The Victoria Palace Theatre by eight months. Tickets are now on sale until 18 December, 2010.
The work premiered in March 2005 at the Victoria Palace Theatre in London. It cost £5.5 million to make The producers were Working Title Films, Old Vic Productions Plc and David Furnish. It was directed by Stephen Daldry and choreographed by Peter Darling, as was the original film. Ian MacNeil designed the sets, Nicky Gillibrand designed the costumes, and Rick Fisher designed the lighting.
It has won four Laurence Olivier Awards:
- Best New Musical,
- Best Actor (awarded jointly to James Lomas, George Maguire and Liam Mower - the boys who played Billy Elliot),
- Best Sound design and Best Choreographer.
It also won the Evening Standard Award as well as the Critics Circle Award and the Theatregoers Choice Award - all for Best Musical.[4]

Billy Elliot Cast Changes
Gillian Bevan and Deka Walmsley will join the West End cast of Billy Elliot as Mrs Wilkinson and Dad from 14 November 2011, with Ann Emery returning play Grandma, the role she originated in 2005 and played until 2010. Also joining the new principal cast at the Victoria Palace are Michael Peavoy (Tony), Sean Kearns (George), and Simon Ray Harvey (Mr Braithwaite).
